Exhibitor Spotlight: Art & Antique Hunter

Art & Antique Hunter, Mitra Kilburn, was part of our very first show in 2010 and she continues to delight her clients each Market at The Antique & Design Center with a fresh selection of exquisite European antiques and decorative arts, 16th-19th Century. She is known for her fabulous mirrors and chandeliers and she has recently added a collection of Mid-Century Modern European pieces.

Mitra is a third-generation antiques dealer who loves the thrill of the hunt and finding one of a kind pieces and true treasures. When asked about her favorite purchase ever, she said "Every piece!!! Each is unique and irreplaceable!"

She loves showing at High Point Market because it gives her an opportunity to share her collection with talented designers, retailers and dealers from around the world.

She invites you to visit her warehouse and her space at Mews in Dallas, as well as MAI in Houston year round. She can also be found at Marburger Farm and Arbor Antiques in Round Top, Texas, where she shows twice a year and of course The Antique & Design Center each Spring and Fall during High Point Market in space 25 on Ground level of Historic Market Square.

The Evolution of Antiques at High Point Market & a Sneak Peek Spring '15 Antique & Design Center

The inclusion of Antiques at the High Point Furniture Market has been an evolution that began as early as 40 years ago. It started with a handful of designers using antiques when setting up new furniture and accessories showrooms. Some of the designers rented items from local antiques dealers and others used vintage pieces out of their homes to personalize the vignettes.

Of course, the settings using interesting antique appointments became the more visited showrooms. They presented new pieces in an environment that resonated to designers and store owners alike, giving them a much more complete selling tool for merchandising their own stores and installations at home---and a unique leg up on their competitors.

This trend of antiques being used in the Marketplace has morphed into an extremely strong presence on the High Point skyline. Those antiques dealers who used to rent to new showrooms, started presenting their own antiques showrooms at the Market as they realized what a golden opportunity it was. Some of the designers who used to accessorize with their own antiques also started selling their pieces –They no longer just made the new furniture look better: they were actually able to make money doing so.

Fast forward- 40 years----High Point has now blossomed into many Interior Designer’s secret source for their most high end projects. In the past, showrooms would not allow Interior Designers into their buildings until the third day of Market---The first days were allocated to the big “Stocking Dealers”. Those days are gone!

With the strong presence of multiple, diverse antique and artisan venues at the Market now, Designers no longer shop High Point just for new goods. They can buy across the board , finding everything they need for their clients, especially those exceptional antique gems that make them stand out in their field.

We are excited to announce 1st Find At The Farm Antique Show - Atlanta January 7-8 2014

Tuesday, January 7th, just after the sun rises on the rolling hills of the Broder Family Farm...

1st Find At The Farm promises to reignite the excitement of Antique buying in the Greater Atlanta Area, as some of the country's finest dealers roll their trucks onto the fields, find their spaces in beautiful white peaked tents and prepare to unload. Interior designers and lovers of beauty will line up and rush in to have 1st choice on fresh merchandise!

The Farm is located at 1226 Flippen Rd, Stockbridge, GA 30281, just minutes from downtown Atlanta and visible from Interstate 75.

Dealers will drive in at 8am on Tuesday and will begin unloading at 9am as the gates open to early buyers. There will be no selling until the gates open and we will remain open until 8pm. There will be food trucks selling deliciousness, warmth in the tents and live music in the evening as well as a keynote presentation by Interior Designer/Educator Tobi Fairley, - "Finding Inspiration In The Mix - Layering Antiques Into Your Design For A Fresh Look", followed by a guided show walk-through and private wine & dine evening with Tobi. This is an exclusive pre-paid event for designers and design enthusiasts. Price for event is $100. and includes early buying show admission beginning at 9am, along with keynote address at 3:30pm, followed by show walk-through and Dinner with Tobi at 6pm. What's Old is New at Fall High Point Market

We hope to see you this week at High Point Market, at The Antique & Design Center at Market Square!

We were bursting at the seams on Market Square-Ground, so we have expanded for the Fall to the Mezzanine, between Salon and the Boiler Room Bar! (right beside Curations) The exhibitors showing on mezzanine are Peter Nee, Wil Shepherd Studio, Harrison Gallery, Elizabeth Anne.Home, Luisana Designs, Gently Loved Furs and The Dead Artists Gallery.

Lecture Series begins today with Tobi Fairley at 10am, then Mitzi Beach at 12pm with Lunch provided by Wesley Hall Inc., then Design Tech Summit at 1:30! All great educational and networking opportunities!
